What is negus meaning?

Negus is a term used to refer to the monarch or ruler of Ethiopia. The origin of the term can be traced back to the Amharic language, in which it means "king" or "emperor". During the reign of Haile Selassie, the term was widely used as a formal title for the Ethiopian monarch. It is also sometimes used as a title for spiritual leaders or community elders within the Rastafari movement, in reference to the belief that Haile Selassie was the messiah. In modern times, the term has been used more broadly to refer to any leader or authority figure within the Ethiopian community.
